Clinical Pearls

Provides a standardized measure of urea clearance to ensure patients with ESRD are receiving sufficient toxin removal during hemodialysis.

Limitations

Single-pool Kt/V assumes the body is a single fluid compartment. Urea rebound from tissues after dialysis means the equilibrated Kt/V (eKt/V) is usually slightly lower than spKt/V.
