Formula
eGFR = 142 × min(SCr/κ, 1)^α × max(SCr/κ, 1)^-1.200 × 0.9938^Age × (1.012 if female)
Where κ = 0.7 (females) or 0.9 (males), and α = -0.241 (females) or -0.302 (males)Clinical Pearls
eGFR is the best overall index of kidney function in health and disease. This 2021 equation is the standard of care recommended by the National Kidney Foundation, moving away from race-based corrections.
Normal Values / Reference
Normal GFR is typically >90 mL/min/1.73m².
Limitations
Estimates of GFR are less accurate at the extremes of body size, in amputees, or in conditions of rapidly changing creatinine (e.g., acute kidney injury).
