BSA is widely used for determining dosages of chemotherapy and glucocorticoids. It is also used to index physiological parameters such as cardiac output (cardiac index) and glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
Limitations
While the Mosteller formula is simple and widely used, there is ongoing debate about the accuracy of BSA-based dosing in obese patients, where alternative dosing strategies may be preferred.
