Formula
AES / ESETT Dosing:
• Lorazepam IV: 0.1 mg/kg (max 4 mg)
• Midazolam IN/IM: 0.2 mg/kg (max 10 mg)
• Levetiracetam (Keppra) IV: 60 mg/kg (max 4500 mg)
• Fosphenytoin IV: 20 mg PE/kg (max 1500 mg PE)
• Valproate IV: 40 mg/kg (max 3000 mg)Clinical Pearls
Mandatory pediatric emergency resuscitation algorithm shown in landmark clinical trials to achieve > 70% seizure cessation within 60 minutes.
Limitations
Avoid Valproate in children < 2 years with suspected inborn errors of metabolism or POLG mutations due to risk of fatal fulminant hepatic necrosis.
