Crucial for minimizing unnecessary ionizing radiation exposure (which increases lifetime malignancy risk) in pediatric patients who suffer minor head trauma.
Limitations
Only applies to patients with GCS 14 or 15. Cannot be used for patients with trivial injury mechanisms (e.g., running into a stationary object at ground level).
